Theatre Orb.

I have attended a meeting with a man called Craig Norman, he was looking for someone to design a logo and a website for a new theatre company that will be based at the Lighthouse in Poole. The design had colour restrictions as i could only use either red, blue, grey or black.
I have looked at what kind of logos other theatre companies have used and have done some quick designs to send of to him.

The Designs so far.

After going over our research we decided to use photography in the cover designs, accompanied by a bold typeface giving the emphasis on the writer instead of the title. We have also used a limited colour pallet.

Screenbased 2

Screen Based Communication 2 has been one of the most challenging briefs for me yet.

Initially, I started really well generating my designs quickly, and I was pleased with the overall look of my website.

Then the bit that I had dreaded had arrived, starting to build in Dreamweaver. The first week was hard as I just couldn’t get the right code to position any of the buttons on my page but eventually I figured it out, and then the rest of it seemed less daunting.

For my gallery I used the java script plug in lightbox, at first I couldn’t get it work but once I had got one image to work with it I then had the right code so it became easier.

Although I found it difficult to build the website I had a great sense of accomplishment when it was finished and now I also have another Adobe programme under my belt.

D & AD

As part of the PPRD unit we have had to complete a competition brief. In a small group we have decided to take on the book design brief from D & AD.

Brief:

Design a stunning and contemporary cover look for one of the 20th Century’s most acclaimed authors, HG Wells

Creative Challenge:

Known mostly for his Science Fiction writing, HG Wells also wrote incredible social novels that are still relevant today, covering topics such as the mid-life crisis, class, feminism, materialism, consumerism and love.

Your challenge is to choose from the titles listed in the mandatory requirements and to create hardback cover designs that work as a set and establish the books as timeless fiction

Target audience

Young, literate creatives.

Mandatory Requirements:

The only constraint you have is that these must be hardback. Think about every other aspect – materials, size, jacket (or not)… These new editions must stand out as modern literature.

Produce designs for three or more of these titles:

The History of Mr Polly

Kipps

Ann Veronica

Tono-Bungay

Love and Mr Lewisham

You must think of these as a set, so do plan how you can visually link them together

Please avoid ‘classic’ or Victorian designs

In the group we each chose a title that we would like to design. We began our research by looking at book covers that appealed us as the consumer. Underneath are some of the designs that we looked at.
